Python Backend Developer

Engagement: Full-time contract
Location: Remote (US-based only) — US citizenship required

Summary

Virtasant is partnering with a major US public-sector program via a leading systems integrator to strengthen the backend of a production workflow orchestration application. You’ll integrate with the client’s team to deliver reliable APIs, safeguard data performance, and collaborate tightly with a senior React counterpart. No security clearance is required; standard client onboarding applies.

What You’ll Do

- Design, extend, and document RESTful APIs that power critical UI workflows.

- Build robust integrations and services in Python within an existing codebase.

- Work hands-on with SQL (AWS RDS) and Elasticsearch to deliver fast, reliable data access.

- Collaborate with front-end partners to define clean API contracts and error semantics.

- Monitor and tune performance (query patterns, indexing, caching, throughput).

- Contribute to CI, code reviews, and incremental refactoring without disrupting delivery.

- Troubleshoot production issues and ship pragmatic, tested fixes.

What You’ll Bring (Must-Haves)

- 3–5+ years professional software development with strong, production-grade Python.

- Deep experience designing and operating RESTful APIs at scale.

- Hands-on SQL (preferably AWS RDS) and Elasticsearch in production environments.

- Ability to integrate quickly into an existing system and ship value iteratively.

- Practical understanding of API versioning, schema evolution, and observability.

- Strong collaboration and communication skills with product/design/frontend partners.

- US-based and US citizen.

Nice to Have

- Familiarity with AWS services beyond RDS (logging/monitoring, CI/CD).

- Experience in workflow, orchestration, or other data-heavy backends.

- Comfort contributing light front-end changes when helpful.
